How does DOI and PMID searching work in Primo?

Answer

Configuration for both types of searching requires setting up Alma Resolver Augmentation in Config>General>External Systems>Integration Profiles.

Ex Libris Documentation:

DOI:

Primo is configured to allow DOI searching in the Basic Search box by default, but searching for the DOI in the Citation Linker fails.

Add DOI/PMID augmentation to improve searching DOI and PMID in the citation linker. As part of the set-up, you'll need DOI account credentials. Request a free account from Crossref by emailing member@crossref.org

PMID (Pubmed ID):

PMIDs are only found in Medline records. PMID searching from citation linker fails but it works from the everything search if you choose "expand search."

PMID API:

The PMID works if you activate it but the documentation states that you really should get an API key, which you can get if you follow the steps on the NIH site: New API Keys for the E-utilities/
