What do I need to do to get my library links to show up in Google Scholar?

Answer

Google Scholar allows libraries to register their local IP ranges and link resolvers so that if a patron is on a networked campus pc, library links to full-text of Google Scholar search results will automatically display. If a patron wants to see these links from outside of the campus network, they can add their library in Google Scholar and then save their settings if they have a Google account.

Google Scholar works directly with the link resolver provider, such as EBSCOhost or Ex Libris, to set up these links. Prior to Alma/Primo go-live in 2019, Ex Libris contacted Google Scholar for all SUNY campuses and set up the new link resolver connection. You don't need to do anything to make the connection happen, but you may need to set up or edit the publishing profile so that your most current holdings information is continually fed out to Google Scholar. Steps:

  • Go to Resources>Publishing>Publishing Profiles>Publish electronic records to Google Scholar
  • Please complete or edit the Registration Parameters and Contact Information for Technical Issue sections of the profile:

  • Note that there is a 9 character limit for the last name field and if your name is longer, just use the first 9 letters.
  • Use your link resolver for the OpenURL base value, e.g. https://suny-cli.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/openurl/01SUNY_CLI/01SUNY_CLI:01SUNY_CLI
  • You will need to make the job active and schedule it to run:
