Do we need to continue changing the OCLC holdings symbol in MARC field 049 in the OCLC master record?

Answer

No, you no longer need to change MARC field 049 to your OCLC holdings symbol when cataloging and exporting an OCLC master record to Alma's NZ. The location in the holding record is not mapped to the 049 in Alma as it was in Aleph. Instead, the holdings location is assigned in the holding record in Alma. The holdings location in Alma can be changed from the holdings or item record(s).

The 049 is however informational and will tell us what campus and/or if a system job added or re-exported the bib record from OCLC to the NZ. The 049 in the OCLC master record in Alma's NZ will contain the OCLC symbol for whomever was the last campus to export the bib record into Alma manually from OCLC or by the system from the OCLC nightly jobs.
