Why didn't the brief bib record get updated after I added the OCLC#, saved the record, and exported the record from OCLC to the NZ?

Answer

An NZ brief bib record will not get updated in the NZ or the IZ instance of the record if the brief bib record was not released from the MD Editor after updating it prior to exporting the record from OCLC into the NZ.

Solution: Open the brief bib record in the MD Editor again. The brief bib record will automatically update in the MD Editor when the brief bib is opened. Make sure to Save and Release (Ctrl+Alt+R) the bib record before exiting the MD Editor.

To avoid this situation from occurring, please make sure you perform the following steps below when updating a brief bib record to a full bib record:

  1. Open the brief bib in the MD Editor 
  2. Go to Editing Actions>Add Field (F8)
  3. Add the 035 $a with the OCLC # using the following format (OCoLC)########
  4. Go to Save>Save and Release Record (Ctrl+Alt+R)
  5. Export the bib record from OCLC to the NZ
