What should I do if I receive a resource sharing request for an article?

Answer

SUNY is not using Alma for resource sharing article requests at this time, but we are seeing some article requests being created and sent to other libraries. The majority of these article requests are ending up in the Locate Failed status on the lending side. Here's what you should do if you receive an article request.

Lending Library

  • Please contact the borrowing library to let them know they've sent you an article request through Alma.
  • Please do not reject the request. Doing that will move the request on to the next library in the rota. Please wait until the borrowing library cancels the request.  Once they've done that, the request status will change to Cancelled on the lending side. You can then use the Remove Requests function to remove the request from your list of active lending requests.

Borrowing Library

  • Please recreate the article request in ILLiad.
  • Please cancel the request in Alma. Once you've done that, please notify the library that received the request in Alma so they know they can remove the request from their lending requests list.
