How do I manage the Expired Hold Shelf?

Answer

The expired hold shelf contains a list of all expired hold requests fo items being held at the circulation desk to which you are logged in. It allows you to reshelve items, transfer items to other libraries or circulation desks, activate the next hold in the queue, and declare items missing.

To manage an expired hold shelf for a circulation desk, you will need the Requests Operator role scoped to that library and circulation desk.

Navigating to the Expired Hold Shelf

1. Log in to the library/circulation desk whose active holds you wish to manage by clicking the location icon and then selecting the library/circulation desk.

2. Go to Fulfillment | Resource Requests | Expired Hold Shelf.

Reshelving an Expired Hold

Note: Reshelving a resource sharing request will put the requst in the Item Returned to Partner status, but it will not print a Resource Sharing Return Slip letter. Therefore, you should not use the Reshelve function for resource sharing requests. Instead, we recommend using that function to create a list of resource sharing items that need to be returned to the lender. Once those items have been pulled from your hold shelf, you can use the normal resource sharing return process. Doing that will remove those items from your Expired Holds list.

1. Stay in the Expired Hold Shelf's Reshelve tab and click the Reshelve button next to the item you wish to reshelve. If you wish to reshelve more than one item, check the boxes next to the items you wish to reshelve (or use the Select All function) and then click the Reshelve link at the top of the list.  The request will be removed from the Expired Hold Shelf list, and the item will be placed back on the shelf.

Transiting an Expired Hold to Another Circulation Desk or Library

1. Click either the Send to Circulation Desk or Send to Library tab.

2. Click the Transit button next to the item you wish to transit back to its original circulation desk or library.  If you wish to transit more than one item, check the boxes next to the items you wish to transit (or use the Select All function) and then click the Transit link at the top of the list.  The request will be removed from the Expired Hold Shelf list, and the item will be put in a transit status to the appropriate circulation desk or library (the FulTransitSlipLetter will be printed).
