How do I get the holdings location for a POL to use the call number type defined in Physical Locations?

Answer

When creating a POL, the use_marc_record_holdings_template setting, found in Configuration>Resources>General>Other Settings, determines what shelving schema/call number type will be used to populate the first indicator in MARC Holdings 852 in a holdings record. The first indicator determines what call number is used to populate the 852 $$h $$i.

If use_marc_record_holdings_template is set to:

  • false: It uses the Call Number Type in the "Physical Location" to determine the shelving schema to be used. It does not use the default template to populate other subfields in the holdings record.
  • true: It uses the default holdings template shelving schema to populate the call number. The default holdings template is located in the MD Editor.

Before changing use_marc_record_holdings_template to false:

  • Make sure all locations have a call number type selected. Add locations where necessary.

NOTE: Leaving the Call Number Type blank will default to the first call number it matches on in the call number mapping table
